This evening was 10% Tuesday which occurs on the first Tuesday of each calendar month. My dh considers 10% Tuesday as almost a religious experience.
This evening my dh raced off with the cellphone and the school supply list to Walmart to purchase the majority of the girls' school supplies. He phoned me to consult regarding the supplies. Frequently. After an hour of regular phone calls, the phone rang again. Presuming it was my dh who had just phoned minutes earlier, I answered the phone in a serious tone without the typical "hello" greeting:
"If you phone again, I'm going to contact the police and tell them that you are harassing me".
The other end of the line was silent. I then heard my dh's elderly mother (in her 80s) hesitantly reply, "Uh, Maureen? Are you still bringing the girls over tomorrow"?
.....
My strapping late 40s year old dh returned home from shopping at Walmart & Safeway. He had placed a 10 kg bag of flour on the bottom of the cart to wheel it to the cashier. When he arrived at the cashier, he mentioned that he had the flour in the bottom of the cart and expected that she'd have some sort of wireless scanner to scan the price in or that she'd just code it to determine the price owed. Instead, the 20-something (female) cashier walked around the counter to the cart, removed the flour and placed it on the counter to scan it. My dh embarrassedly said to the effect, "if I had known that you needed it on the cashier stand, I would have picked it up for you!" to which she replied, "It's okay. It wasn't heavy".
Is it a bit odd that 10% Tuesday, occurs on the first Thursday? :)
ReplyDeleteThat flour story makes me laugh!
Laughing... just laughing... so funny, MJ! Hope the girls' school start goes well! ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteThanks for noticing the typo, Fairlie! It's been clarified!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! My dh would have done the same thing...phoning back and forth! Cell phones help us and they bother us... :0)
ReplyDeleteThe flour story is also funny...but your MIL calling in the middle of the phone tag with your hubby is the best!
I was a cashier at a grocery store for nine years... methinks she was just trying to make him feel like a heel. That was the 1980's and we had memorized codes to prevent heavy lifting...
ReplyDeleteHi MJ! You are sooooo welcome for the poodle! I'm glad you're enjoying it and using it for makeup brushes. How fun. Just love to spread a little vintage around when I can. :0)
ReplyDeletePS. I keep leaving messages on here because during "Christmas Computer Crash 2010" I lost all of my email addresses. I think I need yours again. Maybe it is on your blog...?
LOL, great stories! I like what I see here! I found your through the Big Idea Festival in Big Picture Classes. You can find me at http://madebykarla10.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI'm giving away a brand new copy of the digital software I'm using for my pages on the big idea festival. I hope you come check it out ;)
BWAHAHAHA! I am surfing around on old blog posts...you know...avoiding actual work...and the phone call story made me snort so loud. My Hubs does the EXACT same thing when he is out and about. He will call me no less than 10 times for an average shopping trip and I get to the point where I start answering the phone in very creative ways. Your poor MIL! LOL
