just what I need

I have a new hobby which I learned from my friend on the Grand Canyon trip in December 2011:

It has been a productive hobby which is mostly invoked when I do the daily obligatory reading assigned to K and N and when I help K with her dictée.  I spend a lot of time assisting homework apparently!  I have learned to knit well (and am 1/2 finished my first scarf for K).  For the more experienced knitters, it is apparent that I haven't learned to purl ( ~ mostly because then I'd have to count or pay greater attention to the knitting than I can do when primarily focussing on kids' homework)!  I knit, but I don't purl!

One-half scarf down, more to come!

PS: for those curious about the Merino wool used in this scarf, it is from Malabrigo and is worsted 625 Kaleidos!  It is positively gorgeous and the photo doesn't reflect the true colours as it was taken in the evening with artificial light!  The Malabrigo website photo is better!

  1. Lucky K! I love the pattern that shows with the knit only scarf. It has been a while since I have picked up any kind of needle, but I do remember that once you start knitting and purling, it is equally mindless. They become a stroke together so that they become easier to count. You can do it.

  2. Great job! I have been watching my Mom and Sister start this new hobby as well...and to be honest, I'm not sure I have the patience so I admire you work.

My Mother made me this amazing scarf using the Starbella yarn. What great gifts they make and imagine your Christmas list now!

  4. Well well. Look who is back! Glad to see you are trying new things ;) I also have not picked up knitting needles for a couple years. Last was a scarf that is fuzzy. Love that wool, but don't like it if I make a mistake and have to rip out.
Enjoyed catching up on your blogs.

  5. I know I'll never acquire any real skill in knitting but it's fun to do quilts and scarves with knitting and crochet. And they are much warmer and nicer than ones bought commercially. (and prettier)
