I am an anti-sports on tv person. That statement isn't quite fair... I don't tend to watch sports whether live or on tv.
My dislike for sports on tv goes back a long way. I recall over a decade ago having a nap on the couch (in preparation for an evening lyrical light opera performance) while the tv was on. In the midst of my nap, I suddenly sensed I had to change the television channel. As I regained consciousness, I realized that the opening theme to Hockey Night in Canada was playing and it was urgent to change the channel!
You can imagine how uncomfortable I am to admit that my house was affected by the Olympics. I permitted K & N to watch the Opening Ceremony. I acquiesced and allowed K and N to change into cheerleader costumes to cheer on the long-distance speed-skaters. I could rationalize all of this on the basis that we were cheering on a friend's son (who, incidentally, won a gold medal! Go Canada!!)
Tonight K and N raced around the basement in an oval with K holding a paper-towel roll (aka torch) with a hand-drawn Olympic flame attached on top with lettering "Go Canada Go".
K and N have been placing pressure on me today to purchase the famous Olympic red mitts. Since when did 4 and 6 year olds care about what mitts they wear? (Not to mention that they aren't water-proof?!) They have no idea who Oprah is so she didn't influence them!
The Winter Olympics are over. As 6 year old K said, "This is my first time that I've paid much attention to the Olympics", I sense that it won't be the last.
I am bracing myself for the Summer Olympics.
I am sad to tell you that the Winter Olympics did not even raise a jot of interest from me (and I have no need of mitts - waterproof or otherwise.)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you enjoyed it though...
This is so funny, and so sweet... Best be careful, K & N could be little athletes in the making! Must say I only followed what was happening with the Games in online news. I'm just not a TV person, and definitely not a sports on TV person either--so I can relate. I'm just not a sporty sort at all--live or on TV. So it was "business as usual" here... LOL! Gosh, summer Olympics next...good thing there's a break until then! Happy Days ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteI must admit I am glad it is over, now my shows will be back on. My hubby watched alot of the hockey and curling games, so I saw some of that. I would channel surf during commercials of whatever I was watching, and saw some bits and pieces.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I am happy we did well.

I am not a sport watcher either. I watched approximatley... oh none of the Winter Olympics!
ReplyDeleteWe too, were infulenced over here by the Olympics. Dear Bebe however, slept through it ALL! But how cute for K and N to be so excited by it. I would embrace their patriotism and love for competition. Let the games begin! Congrats to Canada for some awesome achievements this year!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't watched the Winter Olympics since I was a kid living with my parents. This year I actually kept the Olympics on whenever I was resting in my room. It was comforting and didn't require my full attention.
ReplyDeleteI had the tv on for 17 days straight and normally I am not a tv person. No one was allowed to watch anything else when the Olympics were on. While I am not particularly athletic myself, I find the Olympics to be so inspiring. I hope that my children were inspired by these awesome role models.
ReplyDeleteYou may find that your interests change with the development of your girls' interests.

We had the fever over here. I freely admit, not being an overt sporting fan, to watching: snowboarding, ski moguls, speed skating, figure skating, a wee bit of hockey... and... brace yourself... curling.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it's over. I need to detox.
